Self hypnosis is the way that we are able to connect to our subconscious mind. It is the way that you probably heard is so successful when using hypnosis to quit smoking. What dangers could come from free self hypnosis? Some experts feel that this is the most powerful part of our mind. You probably know that it is recognized that we only use about 10% of our mind’s capacity. The other 90% is the unconscious/subconscious mind.

So if it’s our mind that we are talking about, of course we want to know how to control it. And if we are doing the work of accessing and programming it, why should we have to pay for it? It should be free. It’s information that should have been given us when we were born, or at least old enough to take advantage of it. We should have gotten an owner’s manual for it, like when we get a new car.

So why shouldn’t it be free? What could possibly be the dangers of free self hypnosis, you’re probably asking? I just have to respond that it’s all in how we interpret things. And that has been already programmed into our minds from years of experiences. And studies have proven these facts to be correct.

Did you know that when you expect something to work, that expectation will influence the outcome? And it works better! Did you know that when you value something you get more out of it? Did you know that the price that you pay for something can make it more effective when you put it to use?

Here’s an example. They did a study using aspirin. They took generic aspirin and compared it to the name brand aspirin. They were exactly the same formulations. Inside the bottles were the exact same ingredients. The only difference was the labeling on the outside and the name stamp on the pill. And of course the price. The name brand aspirin was twice as costly as the generic aspirin.

You probably would think that since it’s the same ingredients that the effects of the pill would be the same. Well no! The name brand aspirin was far more effective than the generic aspirin. The price we pay for something determines the value that we place on the product. And how effective the product is will be pre determined by the price we pay. That’s just a fact of life. The way things are.

So getting back to the dangers of free self hypnosis. Here we have a valid way of accessing and programming the 90% of our minds that are out of our control. That is what self hypnosis is very effective for. And it could be a total waste of time and knowledge because we have no value associated with it. It came to us free! So we are set up for failure.

There are ways to counteract the problems inherent in free self hypnosis. These are the ways that can work when using hypnosis for smoking. First, if you know ahead of time that you are predisposed to looking upon a product as worthless because you paid nothing for it, use your imagination to associate that product with something that you felt would be extremely powerful. And make that association as strong as possible. And secondly, if you get the opportunity to purchase something of value associated with that product consider doing so as a way of adding value and effectiveness to the free offering. This is the much easier method. Think of it as investing in your success.
